China Halts All Helium Exports Nationwide, Order Takes Effect At Once
Announcement No. 29, filed jointly by Commerce and Customs on July 10, invokes the Foreign Trade Law.
- HS code 2804290010: the single customs line now barred to helium exporters.
- No end date set: future changes, per the notice, arrive only "separately."
- Zero cause given: no shortage, safety issue, or market disruption cited in the text.
Why it matters: A government that bans an export without stating a cause is asserting it owes no one an explanation.
