Google Rebuilds All 3,977 Emoji Characters In 3D
Google's designers moved 3,977 characters from flat pixels to full 3D models, releasing every one as an open-source .OBJ file.
- 3,977 Noto emoji characters were redrawn in 3D for World Emoji Day, July 17, 2026.
- Creative Director Jennifer Daniel's team ran an AI tool checking contrast at the pixel level.
- Every emoji still starts as a 2D drawing before becoming a 3D open-source .OBJ file.
Why it matters: A single company now sets the shape of grief and laughter for billions of daily messages.
