UN Blacklists Six Congo Commanders As Trump's Peace Deal Stalls
The Security Council's 1533 Committee added AFC leader Corneille Nangaa and five other militia commanders to its Congo list on July 14.
- Nangaa's Alliance Fleuve Congo, founded in 2023, is now itself a sanctioned entity too.
- M23 intelligence chief John Imani Nzenze and FDLR commander Sebastien Uwimbabazi also made the list.
- Twirwaneho, a South Kivu militia formed around 2008, becomes the second newly designated entity.
Why it matters: A sanctions list freezes assets on paper; the rifles of these six stay in hand, in the field.
