Google Sets A 2028 Opening For Chicago's Thompson Center
Architecture Plus Information redesigned the atrium with a cascading staircase, terraced seating, retail space and direct transit access.
- The James R. Thompson Center's redesign, Google said September 16, 2026, will open to tenants and the public in 2028.
- "Google.org is providing $1 million in funding to A Better Chicago in support of 'Every Day Counts.'"
- Sanford Biggers will install "Vector," a 30-foot terracotta sculpture on the Randolph and Clark plaza.
Why it matters: A company opening an office building does not need a sculpture and a school gift to announce it.
