KPMG: 29% Of Canadian Manufacturers Already Moved Production To The U.S.

KPMG: 29% Of Canadian Manufacturers Already Moved Production To The U.S.

KPMG polled 275 Canadian manufacturers in May and found 57% had already paused, cut or cancelled capital spending.

  • KPMG Canada's July 7, 2026 report 'Four in 10 Canadian Manufacturers Eye U.S. Production Move' put the moved-or-planning share at 42%.
  • Anamika Gadia, KPMG Canada's national leader of industrial markets, said: "Last year, the conversation was about survival. This year, it's about endurance."
  • 11% of manufacturers plan to relocate their headquarters to the U.S. within five years.

Why it matters: Capital does not honor a border it finds expensive; it moves to whichever country taxes it least.
