Judge Carl Nichols Freezes Trump's USPS Mail-Ballot Rule, Second Court To Act

Judge Carl Nichols Freezes Trump's USPS Mail-Ballot Rule, Second Court To Act

Ruling on three consolidated suits, Nichols enjoined the Postal Service's August 21 rule, but let one clause of Trump's order stand.

  • DSCC's motion, Civil Action 26-cv-01114, was granted in part, denied only as to Section 3.
  • LULAC (26-cv-01132) and the NAACP (26-cv-01151) won their preliminary injunctions in full.
  • USPS is barred from enforcing its August 21 rule, 91 Fed. Reg. 54,966, published August 26.

Why it matters: A rule that loses in every court it reaches does not need nine more votes to be finished.
