Gold Speculators Add 21,145 Net Long Contracts In One Week

The CFTC's Aug. 25 report shows those funds now hold 277,159 long contracts against just 33,825 short, an eight-to-one tilt.
- Longs rose 20,257 contracts while shorts fell just 888 in the week ending Aug. 25.
- Commercial traders, the mine and bank hedgers, stayed net short 342,038 contracts against 62,453 long.
- Total open interest in COMEX gold futures reached 427,957 contracts that week.
Why it matters: Those who mine and sell gold stay short; those who only trade paper bet it climbs.
